Corporate Sponsorship Funds Argan and Caper Planting
In Khatt Azakane Commune, Safi, a partnership with Berge Bulk allowed us to plant 40 hectares of argan and caper trees, increasing agicultural income, ecosystem stability, and livelihood support.
The High Atlas Foundation operates from a core belief that transformative change begins with grassroots efforts. In Khatt Azakane Commune, Safi, a partnership with Berge Bulk allowed us to plant 40 hectares of argan trees, increasing agicultural income through high-value argan products.
Argan trees hold a deeply-rooted significance in Safi, as the resistance to drought makes the tree a crucial component for environmental preservation and soil health—a pressing concern for Morocco.
By cultivating this endemic species within a larger social, agricultural, and economic context, long-term sustainability and well-being for the human communities who comprise an essential part of these ecosystems is achievable.
This project was launched on December 28, 2022. 40 hectares of land were prepared for the planting of argan trees and capers with local residents of Khat Azakane Commune in Safi Province. The enthusiasm of local farmers to contribute their land for this purpose underscores the project's significance.
With 26 families assisted, each with 8 to 10 individuals, the project is expected to create approximately 320 new jobs, creating a source of direct and indirect household income. Moreover, it offers enhanced economic participation for women and youth, empowering them to meet their financial needs and attain a greater level of independence.
The project is projected to provide employment for 320 individuals – 120 women and 200 men – elevating household incomes and fostering women’s economic and social well-being.
By generating revenue, the project directly benefits the livelihoods of 120 women, enabling them to achieve financial stability and improving educational, economic, and social opportunities for future generations.
The project's projected output is estimated at 63,000 kilograms per year, subject to agricultural seasons and climatic conditions. The production of argan oil and products will open opportunities for new women's cooperatives, which is an anticipated project outcome in future years.
