Africa is entering a decisive chapter in its digital story, and Morocco is hosting this exciting chapter with confidence. GITEX Africa 2026 arrives in Marrakech as Africa’s largest tech and startup gathering, bringing the people and institutions together to answer how artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and entrepreneurship will provide limitless opportunities across the continent. According to GITEX Africa, there are more than 1,450 exhibitors and startups and tens of thousands of participants gathering in Marrakech for this event.

GITEX Africa 2026 opened with a clear message: Africa should be actively participating in the global digital economy, and at the same time, it is rapidly building its own AI model-African Intelligence. Speakers emphasized the importance of building “sovereign and inclusive digital ecosystems that keep value within Africa”.

Carrying this message, I attended the panel on Access to Technology for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security. The discussion emphasized precision agriculture, climate adaptation tools, digital platforms, and expanding technological access for farmers. What stayed with me was the recognition that access determines impact. Technology strengthens food systems when farmers are positioned to integrate it into their existing practices, adapt it to local ecological realities, and retain control over how it shapes their livelihoods.

In rural Morocco, agriculture holds together water stewardship, intergenerational knowledge, and household stability. Through its sustainable agriculture initiatives, the High Atlas Foundation (HAF) partners with farming communities to plant fruit and medicinal trees, strengthen agroforestry systems, and enhance climate resilience while expanding income opportunities. Since its founding, HAF has supported the planting of over 5 million trees across Morocco, contributing to long-term environmental restoration and livelihood security. Participatory development forms the foundation and structural spine of sustainable agriculture. Through this method, HAF has cultivated trust with farming communities, establishing long-term partnerships with 1,461 farmers to shape the future of agriculture in Morocco.

During this panel, agricultural innovation was presented as an accelerator for making farming more efficient, resilient, and competitive. HAF’s approach complements this trajectory from another essential direction. By grounding agriculture in participatory decision-making, long-term stewardship, and community ownership, HAF ensures that progress is firmer. Up to today, HAF has facilitated 76 capacity-building workshops that successfully took place with local families. Additionally, 55 community leaders, mostly women, took part in training sessions in Boujdour on writing and submitting project proposals in alignment with the National Initiative for Human Development. In this way, the tech momentum addressed at GITEX Africa and the human-centred sustainability cultivated by HAF move along the same path.

GITEX Africa 2026 confirms that Africa’s digital future is being shaped from within the continent and contributes to the global economy. In this sense, African Intelligence is far beyond algorithms or infrastructure; it represents the historical collective wisdom, agency, and responsibility that guide how modern innovation serves people and the land.

The High Atlas Foundation is proud to stand as part of this broader movement. Our work in participatory development, sustainable agriculture, women’s leadership, and psychosocial empowerment all reflect a commitment to ensuring that progress remains rooted in dignity and community strength. As Africa accelerates forward, we recognize our responsibility to remain actively engaged, adaptive, and forward-looking, contributing human-centred insight to a rapidly evolving landscape. We congratulate the organizers and participants of GITEX Africa for convening a moment that signals confidence, sovereignty, and shared ambition for the continent’s future.
